The composer Johann Scherer is so unknown that there is even disagreement about his first name. His surname Scherer is also found in various spellings in old encyclopaedias, if at all. Neither his birth nor death dates are known. Johann Scherer was probably a member of the Kassel court orchestra as a flautist and violist in 1768. However, his actual instrument is said to have been the oboe. However, as compositions for the flute are said to have been in greater demand at the time, only compositions for the flute by Scherer have survived.
These hitherto completely unknown trios for 3 flutes by this composer, who is probably completely unknown to most flutists, surprise us with their sweetness and immediate joy of playing. The technical difficulties are limited.
This music, which is still completely rooted in the Baroque spirit, is therefore invaluable for ensemble work with the intermediate level. It is also suitable for multiple instrumentation of the 3 parts.
The source for this first edition was a copy of the manuscript, which is kept in the Royal Library in Copenhagen.
Some errors in the copies have been corrected and the articulation adjusted.
